About this course

Accounting and financial management are among the most fundamental disciplines in business, underpinning how organisations record and report their activities, how they plan and control their finances, and how investors and other stakeholders assess their performance. The combination of these two fields gives you both the technical accounting skills needed for professional practice and the broader financial management knowledge that is central to commercial decision-making. Together they prepare you for a wide range of careers in accountancy, corporate finance and financial leadership.

At the University of Hull this programme is designed to provide a faster route towards professional accountancy qualifications, giving you the knowledge base that professional bodies draw on for their examinations. The course runs over four years full time and, despite its title specifying study abroad, the data indicates this is a standard full-time programme; any international experience embedded in the structure would be detailed in the course materials at the University. You will study financial reporting, management accounting, corporate finance, auditing, taxation and the regulatory frameworks that govern accounting practice, developing both technical competence and the professional judgement that accountancy requires.

You will develop skills in financial analysis, quantitative reasoning, professional report writing and the ethical dimensions of accounting practice. The ability to work accurately with complex financial information and to communicate your findings clearly to non-specialist audiences is a central part of your development.

Graduates from accounting and financial management programmes typically go on to complete professional qualifications with bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and work in public practice, industry, financial services and the public sector. Roles include financial accountant, management accountant, auditor, financial controller and finance director. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance or business administration is also a route taken by some graduates.
