Accounting and finance are the twin disciplines at the core of business and economic decision-making. Accounting provides the systematic recording, analysis, and reporting of financial information that enables organisations to understand their position and be held accountable. Finance applies economic principles to the management of money, assets, and risk, asking how resources should be allocated, how investments should be valued, and how financial uncertainty should be managed.

Together, they prepare graduates for careers at the heart of business, public sector organisations, and financial institutions.

At Teesside University, this four-year programme includes a foundation year that provides a supported entry into degree-level study, building the mathematical, economic, and analytical skills needed before the main accounting and finance programme begins. The foundation year is designed for students who want to study at this level but need additional preparation before engaging with technically demanding honours content. From the main programme onwards, you will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment theory, financial markets, and quantitative methods, developing both the technical skills to work with financial data and the analytical judgement to interpret and communicate it effectively.

This full-time programme includes a sandwich year with a work placement and a year abroad, providing an exceptional breadth of professional and international experience. The placement gives you sustained experience in a financial or accounting environment, which is particularly valuable in a profession where practical skills and professional contacts matter enormously. The year abroad broadens your perspective and adds international dimension to a degree that is inherently global in outlook.

Graduates go on to careers in accountancy, corporate finance, investment management, financial analysis, risk, consulting, and the public sector, with many also pursuing professional qualifications in accounting or investment.
