About this course

Accounting and finance is a combination that provides both the detailed technical knowledge of financial reporting and control and the broader analytical frameworks for understanding how financial markets and institutions operate. Accounting is concerned with measuring, recording, and communicating financial information, forming the basis on which organisational decisions are made, audited, and reported to investors, regulators, and other stakeholders. Finance examines how capital is raised, allocated, and valued, encompassing corporate finance, investment, portfolio management, risk, and the behaviour of financial markets.

Together they form one of the most directly career-oriented combinations in the business disciplines.

At the University of Stirling this four-year full-time programme develops both disciplines with rigour and professional relevance. You will study financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, and taxation alongside financial theory, investment analysis, and the quantitative methods used in financial decision-making. The degree includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic and business environment, which is valuable in a field that is increasingly international in its outlook.

The typical entry tariff of 184 points reflects the competitive academic standard expected of students joining the programme.

You will develop technical financial knowledge, analytical capability, and the professional understanding needed to work in accounting, finance, or related roles across a range of organisations.

Graduates pursue careers in accounting and audit, investment banking, corporate finance, financial management, risk, fund management, and financial planning. Professional accountancy qualifications from bodies such as ICAS, ICAEW, or ACCA are a natural next step for those entering accounting roles. Postgraduate study in finance, accounting, or financial economics is also a common route for those wanting to specialise.

Highly recommend
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” the city …

Genuinely worthwhile
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” good transport links make i…
