About this course

Accounting and finance are the twin disciplines at the heart of how organisations measure, manage and communicate their financial performance. Accounting provides the language and systems through which financial information is recorded, summarised and reported, while finance addresses the theory and practice of how capital is raised, invested and managed. Together they equip graduates for careers at the financial core of businesses, public sector organisations and financial markets, in roles that require both technical precision and strategic judgment.

At Newcastle, this three-year programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, making it one of the more professionally and internationally oriented accounting and finance degrees in the north of England. You will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment, financial markets, risk management, quantitative methods and the regulatory and ethical frameworks that govern financial reporting. The sandwich year gives you extended professional experience in an accounting firm, bank, corporate finance team or financial institution, while the year abroad provides exposure to accounting and finance practice in an international context.

The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points.

Graduates move into chartered accountancy, investment banking, corporate finance, financial analysis, treasury management, audit, fund management, insurance and the many other finance-related roles across private and public sectors. Newcastle graduates typically pursue professional qualifications from bodies such as the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CFA Institute during or after their careers, and the degree may provide exemptions from parts of those examinations. The sandwich year and placement experience give Newcastle accounting and finance graduates a practical advantage in competitive graduate recruitment.

Genuinely worthwhile
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” the city is a bri…

A great decision
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” local cost of living is …
