About this course

Accounting and finance are the disciplines that allow organisations to understand their economic position, manage their resources and communicate their financial health to stakeholders. Accounting is concerned with the recording, classification and reporting of financial transactions, producing the statements that investors, regulators and managers use to make decisions. Finance examines how money is raised and invested over time, how risk is assessed and managed, and how financial markets price assets and allocate capital.

Together they form the core technical knowledge that professional careers in financial management, audit, corporate finance and investment require.

At Nottingham Trent University this four-year full-time programme develops your accounting and finance knowledge to degree level, with curriculum content designed to align with the syllabuses of the major professional accountancy bodies. You will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment analysis, taxation, auditing and business law, developing both technical proficiency and the analytical and professional skills the workplace demands. The programme includes a year abroad, broadening your understanding of accounting and financial practice in an international context and developing the cross-cultural awareness that global employers value.

Nottingham Trent's business school has strong employer connections and a practical orientation that ensures graduates are well prepared for the demands of professional employment.

Graduates are among the most consistently employable, with careers in audit, tax, corporate finance, treasury, financial management and investment accessible across all sectors of the economy. Many go on to complete professional qualifications with bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA, and the alignment between the degree curriculum and professional exam syllabuses means that graduates typically require fewer additional papers. Others pursue postgraduate study in accounting, finance or business administration.

The combination of technical qualification, professional body alignment and international exposure makes this a thorough and well-regarded pathway into accountancy.
