About this course

Accounting and business management together address two of the most fundamental dimensions of how organisations function. Accounting provides the financial language and analytical tools through which organisations understand and communicate their performance, manage their resources, and meet their obligations to stakeholders and regulators. Business management provides the broader organisational framework: how strategy is developed and executed, how people are led, how operations are managed, and how businesses navigate competitive and institutional environments.

Professionals who understand both are well equipped to contribute across a wide range of commercial and public sector roles.

At Brunel you will develop thorough knowledge across both disciplines in a programme that goes well beyond the maintenance of financial records, recognising that accountants are central to business decision-making and strategic management as much as to financial reporting. The programme covers financial and management accounting, corporate finance, auditing, taxation, strategy, marketing, organisational behaviour, and operations management. The four-year full-time programme includes a placement year, giving you direct professional experience in an accounting, finance, or management environment and the chance to apply your academic learning in a real business context before you graduate.

Graduates are well placed for careers in accountancy, management, banking, consultancy, and the full range of commercial and public sector organisations. The programme provides strong preparation for professional accounting qualifications, which many graduates pursue alongside or after their degree. Many others move directly into graduate management roles or financial positions in industry and the public sector.

Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business is also an option for those who want to develop further specialist knowledge.

Would do it again
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good…

Highly recommend
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” good tran…
