About this course

Accountancy is the language of business, providing the frameworks and tools through which organisations record, report and analyse their financial position. It is not simply a matter of bookkeeping; modern accountancy encompasses financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, financial consultancy and the governance of organisations large and small across every sector of the economy. For anyone who wants to understand how businesses and institutions work at the financial level, an accountancy degree provides both the technical knowledge and the professional formation to begin that career.

At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time BSc gives you a strong foundation in financial management and control alongside the practical skills and real-world insights that reflect what is happening in today's accounting profession. You will study the principles of financial and management accounting, auditing, taxation and financial analysis, developing both the technical competence and the professional judgement that accountancy careers require. The programme is designed with an eye towards the professional qualifications that most accountancy graduates pursue, and its content reflects the knowledge domains that the major professional bodies assess.

Accountancy graduates move into careers across the financial services sector and beyond. Public practice in accounting firms, working in audit, tax, advisory or specialist services, is a common starting point, and many graduates join firms that support their progress towards chartered accountant or chartered certified accountant status. Finance roles in industry, including financial analysis, management accounting, treasury and controllership, draw heavily on accountancy graduates.

The public sector, including NHS finance, government departments and local authorities, also employs significant numbers of accountancy graduates. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications while working, with the CFA, ACA, ACCA and CIMA being among the most common routes.

A great decision
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” good tr…

Genuinely worthwhile
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” g…
