Senior Officer in Ambulance Services
What you'd actually do
As a senior officer in an ambulance service, you lead a team of paramedics and emergency medical technicians who respond to 999 calls. You make sure your team has what they need, that ambulances are ready to go, and that people in emergencies get the fastest possible care. You will make quick decisions in stressful situations and work with hospitals and other emergency services to make sure patients get to hospital safely.
Your day involves checking that ambulances are maintained, talking to your team about how they handled calls, planning how to station ambulances around your area so you can reach people fast, and making sure staff are trained and looking after their own wellbeing. The job is demanding - you will see people at their worst moments - but you will know you are making a real difference to someone's life.
