About this course

Study financial systems & markets through economic models & data. Gain quantitative skills in economics, with optional placement or study abroad. The BSc Financial Economics is a three-year degree, or four years with an optional placement or study abroad year. You’ll study how financial systems and markets function using economic theory, quantitative methods, and data analysis. The course combines core economics with applied economic and quantitative analysis, giving you the tools to analyse markets, evaluate risk, and understand financial decision-making at scale. The BSc Financial Economics is built around analysis rather than commentary. You’ll discover how economists study markets: by constructing models, analysing data, and testing assumptions. This degree is designed for students who want to move beyond description and into explanation, measurement, and evaluation - using models and evidence to understand how financial systems behave in the real world. The course is grounded in core economic theory but consistently applied to real financial systems. You’ll study how consumers, firms, governments, and markets behave, using microeconomic and macroeconomic theory alongside data analysis, mathematical methods, and applied economics. You’ll examine how financial markets and institutions operate, and how their behaviour can be analysed using economic frameworks. You’ll analyse why financial crises occur, how shocks propagate through markets and economies, and how regulation and policy are designed - and evaluated - using economic evidence.
